Aims & Scope

AND is a journal of scientific relevance in practice, research and theory in all areas and macro-sectors of design and architecture (CUN-Area 08), as well as in various topics of the ancient, literary and historical-artistic sciences (CUN-Area 10) and historical, philosophical and pedagogical sciences (CUN-Area 11).
It was founded in 2003 and immediately set itself the objective of creating debate and enrichment on topical issues on the Italian and international scene, starting from an ‘active’ comparison between two major themes, be they projects, personalities, or cultural trends, which differ from issue to issue.
It deals with the following:

  • Research papers - primary research with specific methods and results
  • Propositions in architecture and design - critical, speculative, propositional - non-commercial, practice-based explorations that address significant contemporary issues in architecture and design
  • Perspectives on architecture and design - contributions and philosophical discussions by experienced academics offering their views on essential issues in architecture and design.

It thus provides an interdisciplinary forum for the analysis, development and discussion of fundamental aspects of architecture and design.
Articles published by AND cover topics from various disciplines, including:

  • The practice of architecture, urban design, landscape and representation
  • Design practice, including three-dimensional, industrial and product design, light design and culture, visual communication design, interaction design, textile and fashion design, social, service and systems design and other design disciplines
  • Design theory, methods and methodologies
  • Design culture and ethics
  • Education and pedagogy of design and architecture

AND publishes research articles that make new contributions to knowledge and practice, ideally based on original primary research, or contribute to the body of knowledge in design and architecture through reinterpretations and initial analyses of existing works.
The works published by AND are relevant to a broad audience of researchers, teachers and practitioners.
We welcome original, scholarly, and academic research papers that report on architecture and design issues in many fields or promote the development and application of new knowledge.
We encourage the submission of papers by established researchers in the field and new researchers at the beginning of their careers. We also support submitting ongoing emerging research undertaken as part of a PhD.
We also consider special issues in the form of guest-edited thematic sections containing articles with a coherent thread that creates a link between them.
Proposals should be submitted to the Editorial Board (redazione@and-architettura.it).

AND only publishes articles in Italian and English.
