Abstract

The construction of a new railway station significantly impacts the urban structure of any city because, unlike airports or other infrastructure, it represents a 'port' in the very heart of the city. In Italy, stations have always been considered natural monuments, so the construction of stations has marked the country's modernisation stages. The new stations designed to implement high-speed rail transport are located in cities according to different criteria than in the past, often to reunite parts of the towns separated by rail to contribute to their integration into a metropolitan dimension.
