Abstract

Honoured with the title of European Capital of Culture in 2008, Stavanger in Norway organized “Open Port”, a program of initiatives in fields ranging from architecture to literature, music, visual arts, stimulating the ambition of all its metropolitan area. The municipality of Sandnes participated in several activities, including the “Norwegian Wood” competition promoting sustainable wooden constructions. One of the competition categories dealt with the theme of urban space as a place to stop and share and involved setting up a plaza at the crossroads between Flintergaten e Laggaten, two pedestrian streets near the harbour.
