Hypertrophic immediacy

From Instant City to Ins- tagram, the project in the society of images

Abstract

We live in a time that structurally eludes any attempt to provide us with an idea of the future, a general vision, a horizon. As in this period, humanity has never seen its imaginaries capable of projection and openness removed from the intrusive elusiveness of the future. Something unimaginable has even happened in the contingent: a Pandemic. Without recourse to the imagination, but obliged by the avoidance of the worst, we are experimenting with ways of living and organising work that has never before been so flattened in spaces of restricted intimacy (our homes) where professional roles and family responsibilities coexist with unconscious fatigue and in some cases, with confused overlapping. We are experiencing new habitability, both physical and mental. Forced into isolation and unconsciously put to the test of our habits, we are led to abstract ourselves, to perimeter ourselves in a timeless digital space unprepared to be furnished and spatialised as we have been accustomed to a three-dimensional environment in which we have lived until now.
