Morphing spaces
Mutating environments from programmed art to mixed reality
Abstract
The desire to create systems of objects and spaces that can satisfy changing needs and mimic the processes of growth and evolution of living beings has led to extensive research emphasising the concept of interactivity. Since the 1960s, interactivity has been developed in both art and design to overcome the passivity of the user. Combining artistic sensibility, technological innovation, and spatial design, this paper aims to retrace the main stages in the design of metamorphic and interactive environments, highlighting their salient features through the analysis of transdisciplinary case studies.
