Twenty years of thinking on exhibition design
A critical examination for a phenomenology of displaying
Abstract
The text proposes an excursus through twenty years of reflections on the discipline of display in search of constructing its semantics of display. A critical path from overcoming adjectives such as conservative, protective, and ephemeral, which have become insufficient, consolidates around the concept of narration. The exhibition design is configured, then, as a place to give meaning, also thanks to the introduction of digital implementations, proposing itself as a proper expressive medium, capable of being co-participative and generative, whose future is oriented towards the realisation of dialogic spaces, generated by an analogical/digital syncretism, which we can define as phygital. The exhibition, therefore, will increasingly be called upon to fulfil the role of a relational place.
