Design of human manifestations
Abstract
This article explores the role of design as a tool for transforming urban space, highlighting how ephemeral and concrete scenographies can foster a sense of belonging and enrich the identity of places. Through a critical review of theories and practices, participatory design interventions and urban performances that reinterpret the city as a stage for everyday life are analysed. The text discusses the value of temporary installations, such as Temporary Design and Tactical Urbanism, in generating new social and cultural dynamics. With theoretical references from authors such as Norberg-Schulz, Jacobs and Bauman and iconic public art, it proposes a vision of urban design as a catalyst for creating expressive, emotional and inclusive spaces. The article concludes by reflecting on the importance of preserving the identity of places against the pressures of globalisation and consumerism, promoting sustainable solutions sensitive to local communities' needs.
