Montes Herraiz e Fariña Martínez, Memoria Medical center
Abstract
Tres Cantos is a recently founded municipality on the outskirts of Madrid. Its history is linked to a construction strategy that in the early 90s, following the British and American model, generated a series of ‘dormitory towns’ built to solve the problem of urban expansion. The absence of services and the low aesthetic quality of such housing were determining factors in the deterioration and poor functioning of these areas, always slightly alienated from the nearby metropolis. In recent years, however, the local administration has invested in a series of measures aimed at rede- veloping not only the downtown, but its relationship with the public. The project that has established this virtuous circle is focused on public healthcare: Memoria is a medical center located at the very heart of Tres Cantos, in a park that lies between the neighbourhood of the town hall and the shopping district.
