Energetic fluxes

Ikon.5 architects, Wellness center in New Rochelle

  • Fabrizia Vecchione

Abstract

The fitness center inaugurated in May 2008, becomes part of the historical context of the college of New Rochelle, New York, which has not seen such relevant transformation for around 40 years.

The priority of Ikon.5 architects was to generate a process of fusion capable of involving the architectonic scenery and the nature of the countryside. Cement, panels of coloured glass and local stone combine ably in the external façade thus generating immediate relations with the late eighteen hundreds stone of the gothic-style campus buildings. The roof garden instead contributes to a diminishing of the perception of the building’s mass which therefore appears as being harmoniously immersed in greenery.
