Abstract

The Dogan Media Centre is the headquarters for the television channels and newspapers that belong to one of the leading groups in Turkey; it serves as a base for interaction between the group’s brands and as a highly effective resource. The building was developed in response to the site, whose right-angle layout called for a pure form. The basic design modules are a 4x4x4-meter cube and a 8x8x8-meter structural module. The faces of the main cube have been remodelled through the extrusion and subtraction of smaller cubes, which erode the underlying linearity of the form. Many ramifications and annexes project from the main volume; each section is devoted to a specific TV channel or periodical. The various units, studios and staff offices, manage to maintain their identity and unique character, while composing a homogeneous cluster that aims for overall unity.
