Scandinavian understatement
Lassila Hirvilammi Architects, Kuokkala church
Abstract
In 2001, Anssi Lassila and Teemu Hirvilammi founded a studio in Oulu (Finland), moving it three years later to Seinäjoki, a small town rich in public works by Alvar Aalto (Lakeuden Risti church, library and town hall). The two designers embrace the humility with which Scandinavian architecture of the last century incorporates traditional techniques into an avant-garde design.
