Hidden Chromatisms

The Impact of Minimalism on Cultural Identity in Contemporary Architecture

Abstract

In the landscape of architectural evolution, the predominance of minimalism, characterised by clean lines and simplicity, hides a subtle phenomenon: cultural annihilation. Despite being a symbol of contemporary philosophy, minimalism, with its monochromatic palette, unintentionally neglects different cultural narratives. Examining the historical impact of modernist principles and the deliberate absence of bright colours reveals a silent accomplice in cultural amnesia. Architects must now balance innovation and preservation, recognising the profound role of colour as a cultural language. This exploration emphasises the need for inclusive design approaches to preserve the diverse narratives woven into our built environment.
